The following sources are not all that is out there on regional history.  There are more sources that I do not have, than what I do have.  I've tried to divide them up to make them easier to find.  Many of these books are long out of print and hard to find. 

Stoddard County 

The Stoddard County Historical Society books on Stoddard County records are invaluable to researchers.

Forister obviously has a love of history, he's published several books about Southeast Missouri counties. The problem I have with these books is the lack of documentation. I'm not sure why someone would go through such great lengths to publish books full of information that is not documented where the info came from.

All of these books contribute to the study of Stoddard County in their own way. The marriage records compiled by the Thorns are very helpful for general research and reference. The history of the county written in 1985 is limited in scope, but good for basic information.
